Stupid, Stupid Rat Creatures!!

So I figured I'd center this blog around something other than myself. Egocentric writers can tend to wear on the reader, don't you think?

What I wanted to do here is talk a little about comics that I think every single person out there needs to read. No matter what type of comics you're into or even whether you're into comics at all.

So here's the list:

Everybody knows The Watchmen and V for Vendetta now so I'll leave those off this list.

Bone by Jeff Smith
Cerebus the Aardvark by Dave Sim
Superman: Red Son, an elseworlds tale of Superman by DC. (I know what you're thinking. What could be so interesting about Superman? He's just a boyscout.)(At least that's what I thought.) Just read it.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller
Sandman: Preludes and Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman. The entire series is phenomenal but you can get buy quite well with just the first book.
The Maxx by Sam Keith and William Messner-Loebs

There are so many other ones. Independent ones. Webcomics and so on, like The Light Children and Freak Angels. The trick is get yourself out of that box that your local comic book shop keeps for you and experience something different and new. A new texture or taste that will jar your reality and bring it screaming back in a new and more enjoyable focus.

  2. I think even the storyline with the horse was cool. I think what made it for me was the art. Sam Keith is absolutely incredible.
